How you can help

The Sheffield Visually Impaired Walking Group is run by and for people with impaired or no vision. It enables us to walk with confidence, knowing that we can ask for assistance and that the pace will vary according to our needs. It means that we can experience the fresh air and freedom of walking in the countryside, and enjoy the fun and friendship of a varied group of people.

At present there are two rambles per month, on the second Wednesday and the fourth Sunday, of about six or seven miles. There is also a fun walk of no more than three miles once a month on a Wednesday. These short walks are aimed at people who may have just lost their sight and are looking to increase their confidence or people who have had very little or no experience of walking in the countryside. Or may just be unable to walk far and are unsure if they would be up to a long hike.

As well as the group walks we also have a number of guides who are willing to accompany our members out walking on a one to one basis.

This group prospers because of the dedicated support of the Sheffield Ramblers Association and other helpers,

The Sensory Impairment Team of Sheffield City Council Social Services and Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind.

Our vision for the future is to increase the amount and length of the walks and we are looking in to the possibility of arranging group walking holidays.
